Join musician and Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher Sawyer Ward for a rousing celebration for Lord Krishna on Krishna Janmastami, Krishna’s birthday.
Krishna is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Hindu Divine Creative principle. His teachings in the Bhagavad Gita are widely considered the foundations of Yoga. He is one of the most beloved figures in Hinduism, loving, compassionate, and accessible while also carrying the wise flame of divinity. Krishna Janmastami is a major festival on the Hindu calendar.
Kirtan is call-and-response style group chanting, and Sawyer is a masterful leader and storyteller. She chooses meaningful mantras (sacred chants) and songs from a number of traditions to align the vibration of the group with the intent of the celebration. For this event, expect uplifting and opening, welcoming the new birth of Spring into the world and into our lives.
Chanting and singing are a balm to the Vishuddha, or throat, Chakra, which rules the thinking mind and the space between our shoulders and ears. Thought, speech, the practice of satya, or truthfulness, and our clear perception of things are supported by Kirtan. Practicing in a lovely and soothing community setting is doubly beneficial, as all levels of participation and skill are welcome.
$25. For the in-person event (highly recommended!), register here.
For the livestream, register here. Please note that the screen and sound quality of the Kirtan will be diminished when transmitted over Zoom.
